HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TO PLAY SING?

There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn to sing well. With regular practice, a basic level of singing techniques and breath control  accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND OR ABILITY. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?

Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound and the techniques used to achieve the best results.

Your vocal cords are your instrument.

Dream of being the next Taylor Swift?

Vocal cords are nature's instruments.  Like any other instrument, it takes practice to be able to manipulate them in order to produce different pitches.   Think of the vocal cords like the strings on a violin. If the violinist's finger doesn't press the string on the exact spot it's supposed to, that pitch will either sound sharp (higher than the intended pitch) or flat (lower than the intended pitch). Violinists have to practice pressing that exact spot over and over to get the correct pitch.  There are no specific buttons or keys to press to achieve the exact pitch, such as the piano or saxophone for example. Similarly, vocalists must practice singing pitches on key over and over to train the vocal cords to hit that pitch correctly.  Not only to hit the pitch correctly but to form the correct intonation too.

Singing with improper technique can lead to vocal cord injury. Vocalists must warm up their vocal cords by singing voice exercises so that the vocal cords can be stretched incrementally.  This leads to extended vocal range.  Vocal instructors will teach students about head voice and chest voice and how, and when, to use them. They will discuss the importance of breath control and help time breaths in songs in order to get a solid pitch.

If you think of your vocal cords as your instrument and you practice with the same discipline it takes to master any other instrument, you will surely get better and achieve the results you want.
